With the emerging times & technology, Media has seen a
drastic transformation from print to online media forms. A new “News” forms
almost every micro second & is published the very next second. From sensible
news to sensationalizing News, Media has come a long long way!
While pondering over some latest issues in our country I
realized these aren't really “Issues”, these are very minor things that happen
but are given unnecessary weight age, coverage & importance. For some reason
the “News” are no longer a problem we face as a country but are mere statements
given by apparently “famous people”
Let me elaborate, with a lighter example first: Aamir Khan’s
views on AIB roast was given a lot more importance than the actual AIB Roast
video & the stupid FIR’s that followed. The questions changed from “What do
you think of AIB Roast” to “What do you think of Aamir’s reaction to the Roast”
! Aamir Khan is a great actor & makes some really good films but does that
mean his opinion on something was worth making even bigger News?
I mean seriously we are making news out of a person’s
personal opinion & reaction? Are we that jobless or that demented?
Another extremely disturbing example is the RSS Mohan
Bhagwat’s comment on Mother Teresa’s aim being conversion to Christianity, this
time not just the media but people took on social networking sites &
supported or spoke against the statement. Hashtags are created on twitter which
keep trending all day, but the question is.. so what? What does that result into?
Even if conversion was on Mother Teresa’s mind, how does it change the
productivity & future of our Nation? How does it affect any one of us now ?
So basically we are just going around in circles wasting our
time over who had to say what! By giving unnecessary people & their
comments importance we are helping them achieve their hidden agenda of
publicity & recognition & that’s all ! In this process people neglect
& forget about graver problems that we face in the likes of corruption, education
awareness, health & hygiene etc.
At the same time we very easily blame the Media & say Media unnecessarily hypes issues, but
then they also feed us what we want to consume ! How many hits does a news
reporting about Ranbir-Katrina’s engagement ( reported at least 100 different
times, so when it actually happens there would be no “News” in it ! ) have
versus an electricity issue a village is facing ?
Absolutely no points for
guessing !
It is our responsibility equally as to what matters to us in the
long run & how we want to see our country progress.
Yes its good to know the way politicians think so that you
know whom to vote in your next election, but beyond them insignificant statements
& people opinions should not “stir” our nation !
It’s a human tendency to react instantly to things we hear,
but its also important to get all your facts right before you react. For example
we all went crazy over the ban of “India’s Daughter” but it’s important that facts
about the permissions, authorities & the legalities are known to us &
we do go through them before we start reacting ferociously.
Correct me if I am wrong, but all we do is react, are there
absolutely any actions taken because we were hurt as a nation?
Are we bringing any change to the society & the way
things function ?
With the passing time are we progressing or getting more
regressive as a Nation ?
We don’t need debates & we don't need to encourage opinions
We do not need open letters, we as a
nation “do not want to know” but want to see action.
Like... we want to see justice prevailing in shorter amount of time,
we want the democratic rights the country has given us without terms &
conditions & the things like these…basically solutions to problems.
Media & audience are both flawed in ways, how
we work in our own respective roles responsibly & in a balanced fashion
will change the dynamics for the better !
